Join us on a ride to a Juneteenth Slow Roll. Our ride starts at Brackett Park which is 2.5 miles on the Midtown Greenway to Venture Bikes where the Slow Roll will happen. This will be an easy C paced ride. Wear comfortable clothing and shoes. Bring a bike lock and some cash for food or purchases at tVenture Bikes or the Midtown Global Market. The intent is to return to Brackett Park by 2:30 pm. Street parking is available and the ride briefing will be in front of the recreation center. This is a special event. Total miles less than 10 miles. No TCBC mileage credit or insurance.
Overview
The Juneteenth Slow Roll: Black Collective Economics — Black to the Future is a community bike ride through the historic Black economic corridor of South Minneapolis, connecting the mutual aid societies of 1787 to the Grand Opening of Tribe Federal Credit Union today. Every stop on this ride is a chapter. Every mile is a memory. And every rider — on every kind of bike — is part of the story.
South Minneapolis was the commercial and cultural heart of the Great Migration in Minnesota. Between the 1930s and 1970s, more than twenty Black-owned businesses lined the 38th Street corridor. Black families — forced by redlining and racial covenants into specific neighborhoods — built institutions of extraordinary depth: a newspaper, community centers, mutual aid societies, cooperatives, and credit unions. On this ride, we visit what remains, honor what was lost, and celebrate what is being built right now.
Every stop on this ride is a real place with a real history. We don't just roll past — we stop, we gather, and a community voice shares what happened here and why it matters.
9:50 AMOpening Circle & Community Comments — gather at Venture Bikes for welcome remarks, intentions for the ride, and community greetings

11:25 AM Arrive: Midtown Global Market · 920 E Lake St · Welcome back, riders!
11:45 AM Community Meal — post-ride lunch inside the Midtown Global Market with community vendors. Sit down, eat, rest your legs, and reconnect with your fellow riders.

1:30 PMGrand Opening: Tribe Federal Credit Union — Ribbon cutting, torch-passing ceremony, and the opening of Minneapolis's newest Black-founded credit union
This is a scenic 30 mile high-BC/low-B paced ride from the Rock Island Swing Bridge south and east into Spring Lake Park Reserve and on to Schaar's Bluff. We'll begin at a 13-14 mph pace and may adjust our speed upward by consensus. Nature will be all around us (yes!), so be advised that we'll stop for bison or pelicans or whatever else sparks our interest. No one will be dropped, and riders who prefer a faster pace and are able to navigate the route are free to go on ahead.
The ride begins and ends at Rock Island Swing Bridge Park in Inver Grove Heights, 4465 66th St E, Inver Grove Heights, MN 55076. Our main rest stop will be for lunch at Schaar's Bluff. Water and restrooms are available there, but not food, so bring a lunch. There will be social time after the ride at Mississippi Pub, on the river just upstream from the swing bridge. Mississippi Pub is a friendly place with indoor and outdoor seating and plenty of parking for both bikes and vehicles.
I will not have maps or cue sheets at the ride start, so please download the route to the Ride with GPS app on your phone or your GPS bike computer. Or, to print a map and cue sheet, click the GPS Route Link, then click on More in the black box above the ride name, then Print Map & Cue PDF then Print Official. Please register on-line before the ride. I can always scratch you if your plans change at the last minute. Be there and ready for the ride briefing at least 5 minutes before the start. And don't forget your helmet!
Let's ride last week's route again!
This week's ride is a 62-mile route with a stop at Ruby's Roost in Victoria. Total elevation gain: 2,800 feet.
We start at the Wayzata Dakota Trailhead, head east through Hopkins, Edina and Eden Prairie, then turn west to our coffee stop at Ruby's Roost in Victoria. From there we roll northeast along Lake Minnetonka toward Medina and back to Wayzata.
This week's route: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/55475740
Where we start: Wayzata Dakota Trailhead, Wayzata
Pace and how the ride runs: This is an A ride. We target an average of 18–19 mph, with 19–25 mph on flat terrain. The group rides together at a steady effort.
Leaders roll out easy for the first couple miles to warm up, then the group trades off leading a pace line. We regroup at the top of hills. No-drop. The goal is a steady-pace ride that stays together with a focus on having fun.
Weather: We ride in most conditions, but we'll cancel if the weather looks rough with heavy rain, thunderstorms in the area, or anything else that makes the roads unsafe. Check back here or your email before heading out if the forecast looks bad.
See you Saturday!

Come join us riding to celebrate, finally, Debra Eardley's Retirement. I am sure you will hear her howling and hooting along the route!
We will be leading the same route as Lyle and Susan but at a B/C pace, averaging about 13 mph.
Meet in the upper parking lot of the Shoreview City Hall and Community Center. We usually park at the north end, near the entrance. The huge playground just across the street in Shoreview Commons is very popular, so we'll probably be several rows into the parking lot. Restrooms and water are available in the Community Center.
Before leaving home, please check the TCBC Ride Calendar or Forum for possible ride delay or cancellation.
Possible meet up afterwards for lunch, location TBD. Treats for sure at the end of ride.
Same route as ‘Centennial circle’ but with a Blaine start. Load the file as no printed cue sheets. Mellow but steady B pace. Park at north end of lot. Kwik Trip is adjacent for last minute items.
This is a Copy Cat ride of Carol's Ride entitled: FREE SATURDAY FOR ICE CREAM OR PIZZA.
It’s National Get Outdoors Day and a “free day” at Washington County Parks. No parking pass or trail pass is required. We’ll start at Lake Elmo Park Reserve from the Nordic Center parking lot at 10:30 a.m. But instead of going to Selma’s, we’ll eventually end up in Lake Elmo at the Lake Elmo Creamery https://lakeelmocreamery.com/ for ice cream or a slice of pizza at The Stable Pizzeria https://www.thestable.pizza/menu/ right next door.
We’ll make a brief rest stop at the I-94 Welcome Center at 12.7 miles and then continue on for ice cream or pizza or both at 21 miles. If you need something to eat before ice cream or pizza, bring a snack, since the I-94 Welcome Center doesn’t have food.
If you don’t want to stop for ice cream or pizza, it’s a fairly quick 4.5 miles back for a loop around Lake Elmo Park and done.
We will sneak back in Lake Elmo Park off Klondike on a gravel road and a dirt trail but it’s a short distance and both are fine to ride with road bikes. I think some of you have done that before with me.
Otherwise, mostly roads, a loop through Cimarron, a couple little hills heading east out to Stagecoach Trail, the trail through the Welcome Center, Legion Avenue/Legion Lane and into Lake Elmo for ice cream.
Route is here to print, download or pin to your phone. I plan to ride at a C pace and average around 10 to 11 mph. Faster or slower self-sufficient riders are welcome to ride at their preferred pace.
Any questions about the ride or if weather issues pop up, check the usual places or don’t hesitate to call or text Donna or Paul Floyd at 612-205-0773. Email at paulfloyd@mac.com
Join us on Friday June 19, 2026 for a Slow Roll ride sponsored by Melanin in Motion. The Slow Roll will begin at Venture Bikes with a reading of the 1865 Juneteenth Proclamation and then ride to several historic African American sites in South Minneapolis. Returning to Venture Bikes, there will be a living history discussion on Black Collective Economics (from Mutual Aid to Black Wall Street to the Tribe Credit Union) which will have its grand opening later at the Midtown Global Market. Actors in period clothing will represent key historic figures between 1787 up to today.
On our return and for those interested, we will visit the Soul of the Southside Celebration near Minnehaha and Lake Street or you can proceed directly back on the Midtown Greenway to Brackett Park.
